First off, not all meditation requires that you sit with your back straight. The yogis would kill me if they read that, but I just have to let it be known. Spirit does not care how you meditate or what position you are in—all that matters is that you have fun and connect.
First off, not all meditation requires that you sit with your back straight. The yogis would kill me if they read that, but I just have to let it be known. Spirit does not care how you meditate or what position you are in—all that matters is that you have fun and connect. The moment a rule gets in the way of that fun, playful experience, stop and change it up. I’m being dead serious—I believe that rules block us. While some rules do support our growth, many others tie us down.
Sound meditation opens and balances your throat, clears your energy and realigns your physical, emotional and spiritual bodies. Sound has so much power—it emits a vibration that penetrates to the very core of one’s being. Think about it. Why does the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” exist? Lies, I tell you—all lies. Words are sounds translated into common thought that is understood by all and accepted as truth. They describe something and tell a story. And how many times did someone say something to you and you were affected by it? Exactly—so much for that saying.
The truth is that the vibration is affecting you, and on some level, you are receiving it into your body. That is why sometimes when we hear something, it hurts. It’s true that words have power—we’re the ones who give it the power. Power, what a great and big word. Say it with me: POWER. Yup, power lies in our words and that’s what makes all the difference. So in this meditation, I will teach you to use sound with power to transform your life—all with simple letters that you will say over and over to affect noticeable change.
Start by lying down or sitting, whichever you prefer, and take three deep breaths. Then say the letter “I” out loud and release it with your breath. Breathe three more times and say the letter “E,” pushing it out with your breath, as you let it flow and think about your life. Let any feelings come up for you. Now take three breaths and say the letter “O.” Feel it deep in your body. Again, breathe three deep breaths and utter the final sound, the letter “U.” Cycle this about five times for a meditation that will balance you and ground your energy, while lifting up your spirits. It’s great to do when heading into work, a meeting or any other time you feel stressed out. The sound you’re creating harmonizes both your internal and external energy. You will quickly see a difference in how you feel around others and relate to them, and will want to make it a part of your daily lifestyle.
Sound is a powerful and natural way to connect with Spirit. The most important aspect is to remove your judgment or fear of being heard by others. Remember, you’re doing them a favor by clearing negativity and opening up a pure source of energy that supports anyone who is listening. So let it out and have fun with it. Never get mad at yourself if you miss a day—just be loving and get back to your practice. Always be gentle and kind in your path and journey. The moment you are hard and strict with yourself, you suck the zest out of your sails and stop doing what supports your highest growth. Love and acknowledge yourself first, and then you will be sure to keep up with the many skills I’m teaching you. I want you to go as far as you can and claim your power—stand in it and beam it to the world.
